What a finale! the last Rnd of South Somerset’s Club Champs at Cusses Gores on bank holiday Monday 29th August turned out to be. The track had been very well prepped by Justin Barclay, with the whole venue looking immaculate. The weather was gorgeous, setting the scene for some fantastic racing, as this was the last chance for members to qualify for MCF’s Grand Slam. It was also good to see a lot of riders join us on the way back from The Red Bull Pro Nationals and the GT Cup.
After three qualifying laps of practice, the MX1 boys took to the line. Jake Alsop riding a 250 stroker set a blistering pace at the front with Mark Young and Adam cookie Cook having some full on bar bashing behind him. Jake took moto 1, Adam second and Mark third. In moto 2 it was much the same with Jake being the man to beat. Nigel Kibble this time was involved in some great racing, eventually settling for third behind Adam Cook in second. Moto 3 saw Jake and Mark Young really go for it all moto. Jake won the breathtaking race from Mark by .2 of a second, leaving Adam Cook in third watching these two fight right to the line. Frank Fleischer and Phillip Hoddinott had three great moto’s fighting for their Club Champs, “who won” well have to wait until our presentation to see who came out on top.
Scott Wintersgill had two great rides to win moto’s one and two in the Rookie’s. A mishap in moto three saw him drop to fourth. George Parfitt was on fire with third in moto one and two seconds in moto’s two and three. Michael Burfield was third overall with a fourth a two thirds. Josh Broadway had some bad luck but he did win moto three, to add to his second place in moto one. It was good to see Marcus Barter back racing after a year out with injury and Liam Brown back after coming out of retirement.
Zac Alsop sharing his brothers bike was unstoppable in MX2 taking all three moto’s, although Ryan Allen and Mathew Thomas gave their all trying to stop him. Ryan also on a 250 stroker had to settle for a second in moto one and third in moto two, with Mathew third in moto one and second in the following two moto’s. Sam Jones, Matt White, Ryan Redwood, Regan Brown and Ben Puddy where having their own battles a bit further back the pack.
The Auto’s were excited to be ridding the whole track and the four to place bets on were, Louie Kessell, Toby Potter, Jack Scally and Liam Gale, a blanket could have covered these four guys, there was very little day light between them, the racing was great to watch. Louie had three great wins, Toby two thirds and a second, Liam Gale a second, a third and a fourth in moto three and Jack having a fourth, a sixth and a second. Some of the best Auto racing we have seen for a long time. Well done lads.
Club member and Twisted 7 rider Harry Kimber on his way home from Hawkstone Park was a pleasure to watch, taking on all the big jumps and making it look easy. He was quite simply unstoppable winning all three moto’s. Ryan Tanner tried to keep with Harry but had to settle for three seconds, Connor Ford three thirds and Archie Hicks three fourth’s and Tyler Rowe three fifth’s. James Rowe had a great first race on a 65 finishing ninth overall.
The 85s where racing together. Tyron Cleaver in the BW was on a mission winning moto’s one and two with a puncture robbing him of moto three. This gave Kieran Banks the overall with two seconds and a win in moto three. Luke Williams had two thirds and a second in the last race, Thomas Coate pushed hard to fourth overall.
The SW saw a battle between Billy King and Henry Siddiqui, Henry taking two wins in moto’s one and two, with a mishap dropping him to sixth in moto three. Billy took full advantage taking the overall with a second, a fourth and a win in moto three. Jumping ahead of Henry to second overall was the hard charging Bradley Flagg with a third and two seconds.
